Willow Smith, known simply as Willow, has found immense success as a singer since bursting onto the scene in 2010 with her hit song “Whip My Hair.” Her talent caught the attention of Jay-Z’s record label Roc Nation, making her the youngest artist to be signed by the label. This paved the way for numerous accolades, including a Young Award Award, NAACP Image Award, BET Award, and more. With three albums already released, Willow has established herself as a modern voice and icon within the queer and Black communities.
In addition to her music career, Willow has taken on a co-host role alongside her mother Jada Pinkett Smith and grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Norris on the Facebook Watch talk show called Red Table Talk. The show tackles “taboo” topics such as sex, drugs, racial issues, and relationship styles through the lens of three generations of family members. It was during an episode in 2021 that Willow openly shared her experience of living a polyamorous lifestyle, expressing her love for both men and women and her desire to explore unconventional relationship dynamics that are often misunderstood or judged.
By sharing her personal journey on Red Table Talk, Willow has become a prominent advocate for questioning societal norms, particularly in terms of gender roles within relationships. She wholeheartedly embraces both feminine and masculine energies in her lyrics and is dedicated to being an ally and advocate for the queer BIPOC community.
